Arai Helmets Founding

Arai was founded by Hirotake Arai in 1926. At the time, a hat-maker and motorcycle enthusiast, Hirotake needed a helmet and there were no helmet manufacturers in Japan. Arai has since become renowned in the racing world for its motorcycle helmets, which are known for their comfort, safety, and innovation. The brand has consistently ranked highly in J.D. Power and Associates' Motorcycle Helmet Satisfaction studies, holding the top spot (or tied for it) multiple times.

What Makes Arai Helmets Unique

Arai helmets are unique, in that they are individually crafted with meticulous attention to every detail. Each helmet is put through a rigorous three-step inspection process before it is deemed fit for sale. This includes checks after the shell is made, after the paint and graphics are applied, and finally, after the helmet is assembled.

Egg Shaped Form

The ESF of the shell has a narrowing bottom, which reflects a human face's bones. It keeps the shell's lower part strong while allowing the helmet to be put on and taken off easily.

Molding Process

Arai's unique shell molding process, known as the "bag process" allows for the production of stronger helmets. This is because it increases the ratio of fiberglass/resin content. Although the Arai shell experts are skilled, it is hard to achieve a consistent shell thickness and weight using the process. To ensure quality, Arai performs two independent quality control checks for each shell, a practice that has been in place since 1978.
